BOSE

Bose began extensive research aimed at clarifying factors that he saw as fundamental weaknesses plaguing high-end audio systems. The principal weaknesses, in his view, were that the overall design of the electronics and speaker failed to account for the spatial properties of the radiated sound in typical listening spaces (homes and apartments) and the implications of spatiality for psychoacoustics, i.e. the listener's head as a sonic diffraction object as part of the system. Eight years later, he started the company, charging it with a mission to achieve "Better Sound Through Research".

Cole Clark

Cole Clark combines classical construction with innovative design and manufacturing techniques to produce a lighter, stronger, unique guitar with a the world’s most natural sounding pickup.

The Cole Clark patented pickup system is the most acoustic sounding pickup available. Aimed at finding a more natural tone when amplified and eliminating piezo ‘quack’, their pickups comprise different elements that only hear certain frequencies which they’re best equipped to handle. This is done using a combination of 6 loaded piezos under the saddle for bottom end, a face sensor that can be blended in to hear frequencies in the mid to high range (350hz maximum crossover) and a condenser microphone shelved to hear only extreme highs.

D'Addario

You can walk the circumference of the miniature town of Salle in about ten minutes. You can jog diagonally across it in about five. This tiny village is located in a slight valley between Mt. Maiella to the east and Mt. Morrone to the south, in the Italian province of Pescara. Two hundred people still reside within the jagged blocks of this mountainous landscape without a restaurant. The only store in the area, a small bar where you’re welcome to pull up a folding chair in the perfect light and sip a cup of espresso with the proud locals who refuse to leave. They will describe to you, in their broken English, the ideal climate, relating a tale of hiking around the village in a snowstorm wearing nothing but a pair of shorts and a tee-shirt. If you agree to stay for dinner, they’ll slow-roast the traditional pig in a large brick oven all day in your honor and, if you can manage not to observe the animal lying whole on its side, you’ll find the taste incomparable.

In the middle of the town is the church. It is in this church that countless generations have sought refuge and marked the milestones of their lives with their families. It is in this church that the oldest documents of the town still reside. One document marks the birth of a child; the baptismal form filled out by a Donato D’Addario in 1680, his occupation stated simply “cordaro” – the Italian word for “string maker.” The trade of the town seemed to be one of two things–you were either a farmer of the rich countryside or you made strings. The D’Addario family was equal parts farmers and string makers. Both professions involved the use of the land and the animals of the region. The town boasted delicious fruits, vegetables, olive oil, and wine, not to mention fresh cheeses, proscuitto, sausages, bacon, lard, and salt pork. Before the introduction of synthetic substitutes, strings were made for lutes, guitars, harps, violins and other assorted musical instruments from sheep and hog gut. Creating fine strings from this material was a long, tedious process. It involved many different phases and the entire process took a week, Monday to Saturday, and began again every Monday morning with the dawn.

I grew up in Fullerton Calif., the son of an engineer (my only real idol and the reason I can do this) who worked in aerospace. I've been a gear head all my life with go karts, motorcycles, cars, radios, etc. From an early age, I've always messed around with amps and guitars, and started playing guitar at age 12. In high school my main interests were sports, motorcycles and playing in bands. While in school, I took a job working for Risson Amplifiers under Bob Rissi (ex-Fender amp designer) making power amps.

I met a lot of people, musicians, writers and producers, started to tech for many of the west coast's music makers, and I still do to this day. Repairs went from "fix my amp, tweek my amp, mod my amp" to "hey, you should make your own amps."

My own amps started from the premise "I wish I had an amp that would..." or "I like my blank but wish it would...." Through those kinds of conversations with Rusty Anderson, Lyle Workman, Joel Shearer, Nick Lashley and Corky James, I put together a small amount of amps to fulfill their needs and the needs of other players in my neighborhood. And it just went from there.

I still make my amps one at a time and plan to continue doing so, as I release new models and products.

Dr. Z Amplifiers

The company was founded in 1988 by Mike Zaite, a.k.a. Dr. Z. Zaite grew up the child of a television repairman and learned about vacuum tubes at an early age. He played the drums, and started producing tube amplifiers in his Cleveland, Ohio, shop while maintaining his day job as a medical electronic technician at G.E.. As the son of a TV repair shop owner, Zaite learned the ropes at the age of thirteen when he began tinkering with amps and PAs.

His first amplifier was built on a reverb amplifier for a Hammond organ. He sold a few hundred of those, and the re-engineered them so he could build them from scratch. His first commercially made amplifier was the Carmen Ghia, an 18-watt amplifier with nothing but a volume and a tone control, 12AX7 and 5751 pre-amp tubes, and two EL84 output tubes.

In 1990, Zaite provided Joe Walsh with a SRZ-65 model amplifier. In 1994 Zaite received a call to build several more amps for Joe to use on the 1994 Eagles World Tour. Subsequently, he quit his job to focus on amps full-time. The following year, a Guitar Player review of the SRZ-65 boosted the company's public profile in the boutique amplifier market.

Dr. Z collaborated with Ken Fischer of Trainwreck Circuits to build amps for Brad Paisley, who has been using them since 2006, but they were never taken into production, Ken Fischer having died that same year. After the 2010 Tennessee floods, which destroyed huge numbers of musical instruments owned by players of the Nashville music scene, Dr. Z replaced Paisley's destroyed amps, and added the Z Wreck model (whose heart is a Fischer-designed output transformer) to its regular line-up.

The Traditional Series (model names beginning with E) bring back memories of the great instruments of the Golden Era of guitar building. Those were days when all work was done by gifted craftspeople, by hand using simple tools.

Fulltone Pedals

Fulltone was founded in 1991 by me (Michael Fuller) a Session Guitarist, Composer, Performer, Electronic Tinkerer featured in Guitar Player Magazine and winning first place in their "Ultimate Guitarist Competition" Blues category. Fulltone pedals were born out of a love for music, tone, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, etc. Early on I developed a love for fine vintage pedals, and my frustration at the inconsistencies and the often fragile nature of old gear drove me to start Fulltone. Rich, Fat-sounding TONE TOOLS with a reliable build quality is the goal. All Fulltone effects carry a 5 year warranty and are built for (and by) musicians.

We use True Bypass switching (with L.E.D. status indicators) in all our pedals, whenever possible. Most other pedals have a buffered output that destroys the performance of most pedals that follow in the signal-chain. Don't be fooled by the claims of "Pure Bypass," "Hard Bypass" or the like. These are just catch phrases to divert your attention away from the fact that those pedals are not true-bypass. I designed and manufacture the Fulltone 3PDT , the world's only Super-Duty Triple Pole Double Throw footswitch.

Rockett Pedals

J. Rockett Audio Designs was formed by: Chris Van Tassel and Jay Rockett in 2006. Both Jay and Chris had been long time session musicians with many years of experience in the recording industry.

After years of dissatisfaction with available products both Chris and Jay decided to try and create products that satisfied their particular needs for tone. Many top session players were consulted in their designs to create the current line of products.

There are and were, at the time, many great products available but both Chris and Jay wanted to tailor their products to meet their personal tonal needs. All products were designed in hopes that the outcome would meet the needs of the many.

Unique custom enclosures were a must that not only serve as an aesthetic benefit but also a functional benefit. A large part of the influence in design came from the Audiophile world along with the critical listening skills to differentiate the tonal outcomes.

Michael Swart, long time musician and recording engineer who owns and runs a 24 track studio located in Wilmington, NC has been using vintage tube amps of yore for live gigs and studio work.

Vintage Vox, Fender, and Ampeg cycled though. Michael always found something missing in a perfect small recording amp for studio and home use that exhibited great tone and distortion characteristics, all the while, remaining flexible (and quiet) enough for recording use.

Michael Swart's latest project - The Jackson Hives "Cafe Racer"Swart then started building custom tube amps to get the exact tone he wanted.
