Long before the birth of Carr Amplifiers, I spent years playing, repairing, modifying and intently listening to classic guitar amps. The Rambler was one of my earliest signature designs, and today it is still one of our most popular models. Why? It's no accident that the Rambler succeeds in delivering classic American 'deluxe' tone with dramatically expanded clean headroom, solid bass response and the option of 28 watt pentode or 14 watt triode operation.

The 6L6 Viceroy is biased deeply into Class A, yielding a pushed, ready-to-jump feel. The vibe from The Viceroy is explosive and forward-tilting. It distorts very well in a large curd Tweedish way when cranked, and the clean tone is gorgeous and dimensional. The 1x12 is wonderfully compact.

Features include reverb, two power levels (33 or 7 watts), a variable drive control (internal clean boost which gives the amp more push and OD when the amp is turned up - you can hear more of the winding on strings and dynamic, super twang), and a footswitchable fixed boost (partial tone stack bypass) which greatly increases midrange punch and yields a wonderful grind. The resulting volume increase is just right for a solo, or if the amp is really overdriving, it thickens and adds sustain. Lighted footswitch included.

Controls include volume, treble, mid (with panel on/off for boost), bass, reverb, drive, and power level.

The Mercury is a stylish, hand crafted, 1-12 combo with a unique power attenuating circuit that allows the amp's speaker output to be adjusted from 8 watts down to 1/10th of a watt, with 2 watt and 1/2 watt settings in between. At its full 8 watts, the Mercury has enough headroom and power for playing clubs. With its lower watt settings, the Mercury delivers rich, output tube distortion at volumes appropriate for studio, home, or late night apartment playing. A three position boost switch multiplies Overdrive possibilities from glassy blues jangle through 21st century harmonic distortion. The Mercury also comes stock with Carr's signature lush, tube reverb.
